"Practice Tips for Beginning Guitarists "

evanEvan Harrar went to Morón de la Frontera in Southern Spain in 1970 to learn "a little bit" of Flamenco. He stayed for most of three years. During that time, he took numerous lessons with Diego del Gastor and with his nephews and traded falsetas with other American guitarists living in town. Evan currently plays and teaches flamenco guitar in Albany, CA. He is also the author of a guitar tabulature book/CD focusing in the Morón style. "Palmas in Brief: Hand Clapping for Payos"

rachelA lifelong dancer, Zanbaka (whose sobriquet comes from an Arabic word meaning "white flower") began studying Flamenco in 2000 with her primary instructor, Rubina Carmona. In 2001, she was invited to join La Peña Flamenca de Seattle, which is comprised of the advanced students of Marcos and Rubina Carmona. In addition to Zanbaka's dedication to La Peña for the past six years, she's had the opportunity to study with Oscar Nieto, Kasandra Lea, Maria “Cha Cha” Bermudez, and Timo Lozano through workshops and recently completed a weeklong course with Antonio El Pipa at the 2007 Festival de Jerez in Spain. Besides her passion for Flamenco, she is also a performer, choreographer, instructor of Middle Eastern dance, and recently self-published the volume of her book seires, Bellydance for the Versatile Dancer, available at www.zanbaka.com.
